Factors to Consider:

There are a number of factors that you should consider when choosing a credit card. These include:

  • Fees
  • Interest Rates
  • Rewards
  • Criteria Requirements

All of the above are important and it will depend entirely upon your individual circumstances as to which card you end up with. You need to think of why you are applying for the credit card in the first place. Is it to consolidate your existing credit card debts? Is it because you want to benefit from different rewards? Or do you just want one for emergency use only? What you are actually applying for the credit card for will make a big difference to which card you apply to.

Some credit cards offer you rewards for using them. It could be that you get cashback for every $100 that you spend. Or you could get money off things such as entertainment or holidays, every time that you spend a certain amount on your card. These rewards can help you to enjoy life more and they give you rewards for money that you would otherwise be spending anyway.

The main factor however that you need to take into account when choosing a credit card is the fees that the card charges. You will have to read the small print to know exactly how much the card will cost you. There could be fees for withdrawing money, fees for late payments and fees for purchasing items. So it is important to know exactly what you would be paying back if you were to apply for the card.

The interest rate is another major factor to consider and ideally you want to aim for the lowest interest rate possible. Basically you get charged interest on anything outstanding that you owe. So if it is a high interest rate then obviously you will have to pay back more. It would be worth researching to see what the average interest rates are on today’s credit cards. Try to compare at least five different cards to see how they differ.

Finally the last thing you should take into account when looking into credit cards is the criteria that the company requires you to meet. Some credit cards can only be given to those who are on a certain income. So for example, you could have to earn over $25,000 to be given a credit card with a certain company. You may also need to have a really good credit history.

Overall by taking into account the above factors, you should easily be able to find the right credit card to suit you. It is always a good idea to compare as many different credit cards as possible in order to find the best one to suit your needs.
